1. Preparation for Confirmation and Communion is PARISH BASED. Children will attend 2 special children’s liturgy sessions about Confirmation and 1 special children’s liturgy session about Eucharist. These sessions will be held during set weekend Masses. Parent education about these Sacraments is also run within these Masses. Children who attend our parish school, but belong to other parishes may choose to prepare and celebrate at their parish, or, they may choose to prepare and celebrate here.
2. If you do not belong to this parish, your child is unable to receive their sacraments in our parish, as we have around 140 children and their families each year to accommodate at the six masses set to celebrate these sacraments. We thank you for your understanding.
3. While most children tend to receive these sacraments in grade 3, families may decide to wait.
4. Preparation for the sacraments is not primarily intellectual. The children’s understanding and appreciation of these sacraments will deepen as their faith deepens.
5. Older children are more than welcome to participate in the sacramental programme.
6. The primary responsibility for passing the faith to children rests with parents. The school and the parish are available to help parents with this. There are many ways that parents can help their children to grow in faith:
• Taking time to reflect on their own faith;
• Learning more about the faith of the Church;
• Praying with their children;
• Talking with their children about their own faith, at a level that the children can understand;
• Participating, as a family, in the life of the church.
7. DIFFERENT NEEDS: We hope to help support all families as their children prepare for the sacraments. Different families have different needs, and we hope that our programme can be flexible enough to accommodate the particular needs of your family.
