Assistance

Each year we hold a working bee asking the parents of candidates to help with a number of tasks, such as helping to prepare the booklets, photocopying, name cards, sorting etc.

You will be asked to tick your availability on the enrolment form.

Sponsors

As Confirmation is deeply connected with Baptism, it is highly appropriate for a child’s godparent to be a sponsor. A child may have two sponsors; at least one needs to be a Catholic. The sponsor also needs to be able to pray the Creed and Renewal of Baptismal Promises with conviction. The sponsors’ names are entered into the parish Confirmation register.

Confirmation Name

The Rite of Confirmation makes no mention of the Confirmation name, and there is increasing support for the view that it is best to keep our Baptismal name. However, if a child has found inspiration in the saintly life of a particular person, they can choose to take that person’s name for their confirmation name.

Dress

This is a formal occasion. Please dress accordingly.

Family Faith Materials/Gifts Some suggested items to help families pass on their faith to their children. These materials can be purchased through the parish from the Piety Stall or at the selling days, dates of which will be provided to you. They are also available from the retailers listed below.

My Missal is an easy-to-follow Massbook, with colourful illustrations, suitable for children aged 7-10.

Mass Book for Young People. A well-designed , illustrated Massbook suitable for children 9-14, to help them follow and understand the Mass.

Making the Most of the Mass is a highly recommended 28 page booklet that explains every aspect of the Mass. Suitable for parents.

 The Usborne Children’s New Testament. A hard-cover, beautifully illustrated book of the story of Jesus, faithfully retold for children.
