Peace Be With You: Cultivating a Culture of Peace
The Australian Catholic Social Justice Council (an agency of the Australian bishops) has released its Social Justice Sunday statement for 2004. In part it states: "A culture of peace is a culture of life. Respect for the sanctity of life and the fostering of the inherent dignity of the person is foundational to our faith and the many ministries of our Church. We can all defend the sanctity of life – of the unborn, the sick and elderly, the criminal sentenced to death, and communities ravaged by poverty, famine or war. A culture of peace is also a culture of human rights, which include access to proper nourishment, health, housing and education. We can all defend these basic human needs, affirming and promoting religious, civil and political freedoms, as well as cultural, economic and social rights."
